Heidi Latsky and Dancers
Take Center Stage
Brooklyn, N.Y. - Heidi Latsky and Dancers, a company
dedicated to the art of movement and its power to portray the mysteries,
passions and peculiarities of life, will perform at Long Island University's
Brooklyn Campus on Wednesday, April 3. Part of the dance department's "Afternoons
at LIU" series, the performance will take place at noon in the Triangle
Theater.
A dancer of uncommon intelligence and fluidity, Latsky transforms emotional
and psychological impulses into impassioned movement in her choreography.
She juxtaposes elements that ordinarily do not appear to be harmonious
yet somehow resonate together in ironic and humorous ways.
Latsky received a B.A. in psychology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. She was a member of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company from 1987 to 1993, where she also served as a principal teacher and assisted in choreographing works for other companies, such as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the Berkshire Ballet and Lyons Opera Ballet. She was the featured artist in the documentary "Last Supper at Uncle Tom's Cabin/The Promised Land" and appeared in the television show "Fame." As a choreographer, Latsky's work has been shown nationally and internationally in venues such as Dance Theater Workshop, Lincoln Center, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Cannes International Dance Festival and Danspace Project @St. Mark's Church. The performance is free and open to the public. It is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by the Brooklyn Arts Council, Inc., and with support from the Campus's provost's office. Seating is on a first-come first-served basis. For information, call (718) 488-1051. The dance department offers a B.F.A. in dance, with concentrations in performance and choreography. |
