Brooklyn, N.Y. The spotlight shines on Trinidad's annual
Carnival Festival in a photographic exhibit at the Brooklyn Campus
of Long Island University.
The exhibition, "Mas: A Theater of the Street," features
photographs by Sean Drakes, and will be displayed in the Campus's
Salena Gallery from November 4 to December 15. Sponsored by the
Media Arts Department, the exhibition is free and open to the
public. A reception for the artist will be held on Thursday, November
14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Now living in Brooklyn, Drakes has extensive experience capturing
island life on film. In the 1990s, he was the photo editor of
the Trinidad Guardian and the lead photographer for the Trinidad
& Tobago Tourism print campaign. His photographs have also
appeared in the visitors' guides for the islands of St. Kitts/Nevis,
Dominica, Grenada and Barbados.
Newspapers that have published his work include the San Francisco
Bay Guardian, New York Daily News and Dallas Morning News. His
photographs have also appeared in international magazines, such
as Panache (Canada), VIVA (Germany), Gentleman's Option (Italy)
and Emerge.

and Saturday/Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information
