Brooklyn, N.Y. Noted drummer and producer
Lenny White, who has collaborated with such jazz greats as Miles
Davis and Freddie Hubbard, will display his dexterity at a workshop
for jazz students at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus.
Part of the Music Department's Jazz Clinic and Concert Series,
the workshop will take place on Tuesday, December 3, at 4 p.m.,
in the Humanities Building Conference Hall. It is free and open
to the public.
White started out on the music scene in 1968 as a teenager in
the band of Jackie Mclean. Later, he performed on Miles Davis' landmark
recording, "Bitches Brew," and on Freddie Hubbard's "Red
Clay," along with Herbie Hancock, Joe Henderson and Ron Carter.
White has recorded 11 albums as leader and has toured Europe, the
Far East and the United States. Recently, he has lectured and performed
at Harvard Law School and Columbia University on new directions in
jazz and hip-hop.
As a producer, White has worked with Nancy Wilson, Chaka Khan,
Diane Reeves, Rachelle Ferelle and Marlena Shaw. He's also produced
projects for the late Grover Washington, Gato Barbieri, Wayne
Shorter, Wallace Roney and hip-hop artist Big Daddy Kane. Among
his other milestones, he co-scored the music for the film, "House
Party"; and also worked on the soundtrack for Spike Lee's
film, "School Daze."
