Brooklyn, N.Y. – The department of communication studies, performance studies and theatre of Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus presents "The Mosquito's Bed," a theatrical event based on the poetry of student Nicole Guide. Performances will take place at The Playhouse at the Brooklyn Music School on 126 St. Felix St. at the following dates and times: May 1, 2, 3, and 4 at 8 p.m.; May 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10; with Long Island University ID, $8.

Guide, who is a sophomore, says that loneliness and fear can drive us into a world of self-destruction. Through her poetic journey, we experience the struggle to escape "the mental slavery that holds us in bondage" – out of a world of darkness to a place of love and a true sense of purpose.

Professor John Sannuto, who directed the production, said, "I wanted to do this piece because it represents the voice of the students." He added, "It's important to do theatrical work that comes from students as well as presenting traditional plays. The participants learn from that experience." The dramaturge and assistant to the director is professor Pamela Sneed.
