Brooklyn, N.Y. Long Island Universitys Brooklyn Campus
shows off the creative talents of five graduate students, soon to
complete the Media Arts masters program, with an exhibit beginning
in October.
The young artists, with internationally diverse backgrounds,
will exhibit their art for their thesis projects in the Campuss
Salena Gallery from October 1 to October 31. An opening reception
for them will be held on Wednesday, October 1, from 5 p.m. to 7
p.m.
Imari DuSauzay from Jamaica will depict her vision of beauty through
photography. "The progression of photography into a digital
medium has introduced a new level of creative freedom for artists
to express their ideas," she says. Her work has been shown
in the Brooklyn Museums "Committed to the Image"
show.
A native of Japan, Motoshiro Kaneko has developed a theory of comedy
that she will present through her video, "Time Elevator."
She will also present still images.
Aradhana Nair, born and raised in New York and of Indian descent,
will read from her screenplay, "The Nair." She works for
the BAM Local Development Corporation.
Erika Lakatos will display photographic images that drew on her
Hungarian heritage. Born in Budapest, she comes from a century long
tradition of the Romungros, the Hungarian Roma/Gypsy musicians,
and says that music, dance and singing is the most essential part
of Roma life and tradition.
Enrika Samulionyte, a Lithuanian, will exhibit her view of "The
Cross" through photography and 3-D computer graphics. "I
express my interpretation of ancient religious ideas through the
forms of contemporary media," she says.
Gallery hours are from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.,
and Saturday/Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information

Long Island University opened its Brooklyn Campus
in 1926, welcoming a diverse population at a time when other major
universities enforced quota systems against racial and ethnic minorities.
Some 30,000 students currently are enrolled at the universitys
three residential and three regional campuses, including more than
11,000 at the Brooklyn Campus. Located at the corner of Flatbush
Avenue Extension and DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn, the Campus
is accessible to all major bus and subway routes and the Long Island
Rail Road.
