Brooklyn, N.Y. - Top names in jazz will delight music fans
at a series of jazz concerts and clinics presented this fall by
the Music Department of Long Island Universitys Brooklyn Campus.
Among the highlights are appearances by pianist George Cables,
guitarist Jack Wilkins and vocalist Jay Clayton at workshops that
are open to the public and free of charge.
Tuesday, October 21, 4 p.m.- Legendary jazz pianist George
Cables performs with LIU students in the Spike Lee Screening
Room, Library Learning Center Room 122.
Tuesday, November 4, 4 p.m.- Noted jazz guitarist and lecturer
on jazz history Jack Wilkins conducts a workshop with LIU
students in the Spike Lee Screening Room.
Tuesday, November 18, 4 p.m.-Internationally known jazz
vocalist Jay Clayton offers her expertise to students in
the Spike Lee Screening Room.
Wednesday, December 3, 7 p.m.-LIU Vocal Jazz Ensemble Concert/LIU
Chorus Concert takes place in the Triangle Theater.
Tuesday, December 9, 1 p.m.-Student Jazz Ensembles Concert,
Spike Lee Screening Room.

In addition to a B.A. in traditional studies, the
Music Department offers a B.F.A. degree in Jazz Studies. Students
may study privately with professionals off-campus for credit. The
program can be tailored to suit students needs with either
a minor or double major in other fields.Long Island University opened
its Brooklyn Campus in 1926, welcoming a diverse population at a
time when other major universities enforced quota systems against
racial and ethnic minorities. Some 30,000 students currently are
enrolled at the universitys three residential and three regional
campuses, including more than 11,000 at the Brooklyn Campus. Located
at the corner of Flatbush Avenue Extension and DeKalb Avenue in
Downtown Brooklyn, the Campus is accessible to all major bus and
subway routes and the Long Island Rail Road.
