Dancers to Perform
At Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus, Nov. 20-21
Brooklyn, N.Y. - Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus will
be the site of a dance extravaganza offering a richly varied
program of works from traditional modern to post-modern styles.
Presented by the Campus's Dance Department as a showcase for
its distinguished professional faculty, the seventh annual concert
will take place on Thursday, November 20, and Friday, November
21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus's Triangle Theater.
Clare Byrne, fresh from a successful New York season at Dixon
Place, will show a solo from her dance "Rend and Sew,"
performed by company member Janelle Barclay, a graduate of the
Dance Department.
Ted L. Levy, performer, director, choreographer and teacher,
will present tap dance. As a colleague of Savion Glover and
the late Gregory Hines, Levy has an impressive show business
background.
Carlos Orta, formerly a principal dancer with the Limon Dance
Company, will present "Songs of the South," a dance
for five in which he will dance with four members of his own
company.
Kwame A. Ross, founder and artistic director of Prophecy Dance
Company and former associate director of Urban Bush Women, will
show an excerpt from "Ochun Suite."
Alenka Cizmesija will dance in a trio choreographed by Earl
Mosley. Noel Hall will repeat a performance of "Keeper
of the Cups," which premiered in the 2001 faculty concert,
with choreography by Artis Smith. Deirdre Smith will perform
in "Hydrogen and Oxygen," choreographed by Sasha Soreff,
a former teacher in the Saturday High School Dance Workshop
at LIU.
Dana Hash-Campbell, former principal with the Alvin Ailey American
Dance Theater and currently assistant professor at the Campus,
will perform in Colleen Thomas and Bill Young's trio "Idle,"
and in Nathan Trice's solo "Wisdom." Thomas, who currently
performs with Bill Young and Dancers and has collaborated with
Young as co-choreographer, will also dance in "Trio"
and in an untitled duet with Bill Young.
Tickets will be on sale beginning Monday, November 10, in the
Dance Department. General admission is $10; for students with
