Free Leadership Seminar for Area College Students, Friday, April 7
Business and government professionals to address skills, values needed for success as future business leaders

Brooklyn, New York --- College juniors and seniors from the entire metropolitan area are invited to a free one-day seminar to build the skills and values necessary to be a leader in the business world. “The Leadership Skills Development Program for Business Students – We’re About Success!” seminar will be held on Friday, April 7,from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.,at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus. It is open to all students from across the metropolitan New York City area.

Professionals in banking, government and accounting will lead skills-development workshops and presentations at the daylong seminar, made possible by the School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences at Long Island University, the Center for Accounting Education at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and the Maryland-based consulting firm Cook Ross, Inc. The event is sponsored by the financial service firm, Morgan Stanley.

Long Island University alumnus Frank Ross, the director of the Center for Accounting Education and a founding member of the National Association of Black Accountants, will moderate the day’s events along with Leslie Traub, a partner at Cook Ross, Inc.           

“This program is designed to help young professionals identify the challenges, choices and opportunities that may impact their careers,” Mr. Ross explains, noting, “This seminar will guide business students towards success and leadership right from the start.”

The Leadership Skills Development Program is free for any college junior or senior majoring in business as well as for individuals with associate’s degrees and candidates for a 2006 A.A.S. degree.

All events will take place in the Triangle Theater on the Brooklyn Campus, located at Flatbush and DeKalb avenues. Long Island University opened its Brooklyn Campus in 1926, welcoming a diverse population at a time when other major universities enforced quota systems against racial and ethnic minorities. Some 28,000 students currently are enrolled at the university’s residential and regional campuses, including more than 13,000 at the Brooklyn Campus.
