Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus Dance Department Presents Annual Spring Concert on April 21-23
Brooklyn, N.Y. – Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus will feature a richly varied dance program this April, featuring the works of faculty, students and a former principal dancer for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Presented by the Campus’s Dance Department, the annual spring concert will take place on Friday, April 21, at 8 p.m., Saturday, April 22, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m. at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students with ID.
The concert will feature works by dance majors Zenobia Rodgers (“The Cage”), Keon Nickie (“Move”), Michelai Sancho (“Baby Steps”) and Krystal Butler (“Stages”). Faculty works will include “Butterflies from my Hand” by Donna Uchizono, “Triptych3” by Dana Hash-Campbell to an original score by Mio Morales, and two works by guest artist Andre Tyson, “Treading in the 2nd Mind” and “Ragged Truth…Shake Loose My Skin.”
Donna Uchizono is the artistic director/choreographer of Donna Uchizono Company. In addition to being a Guggenheim Fellow and a “Bessie” award winner, her work has been presented nationally and internationally. Dana Hash-Campbell is a full-time member of the Dance Department faculty and has been a trainer, recruiter and rehearsal director since 1997. She was a principal dancer and company teacher with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and has served as rehearsal director for Donald Byrd/The Group. Andre Tyson is a former principal dancer and company teacher with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. He is currently an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Peck School of the Arts Department of Dance, and a certified pilates instructor.
On Sunday, April 23, the Dance Department will also hold auditions for its B.F.A. and B.S. programs, starting at 8:30 a.m. in Studio M323. The audition will consist of a Ballet Barré, modern technique class, two-minute original performance by the applicant and an individual interview with the faculty. Applicants must also meet the admissions requirement of the Campus.
