Brooklyn, N.Y. – A sensitive, dynamic and original musical comedy,“It's All in Your Mind,” will portray a teenage girl’s life, traumas and fantastical journey, with performances at Long Island University’s Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts in October.
“It’s All in Your mind” will be performed on Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28, at 8 p.m. at the Kumble Theater on the Brooklyn Campus, at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb avenues, in downtown force Brooklyn. Ticket prices are$12 for adults, $8 for students.
Drawing upon Ethan Schlesser's experiences as a junior high school chorus teacher in Brooklyn’s Mill Basin, the story is centered on an eighth-grade girl, who suffers through the usual challenges experienced by young teens - arguments with mom, betrayal from friends, an embarrassing dad, confusion over boys and humiliation from teachers. Longing to leave her world of “awful suffering,” she is whisked away on a wild adventure - inside her own mind, where unconscious influences like the Emotions, Superego and Id become the show’s characters.
‘I really want to offer a new type of musical-comedy where parents can bring their children, their teenagers, the grandparents, and all can have a great theatrical experience,” Schlesser declares. Brooklynites may know Schlesser as the host and producer of the annual Jingle Bell Jamboree concert series in Park Slope. He has also toured as musical director with R&B divas Sweet Georgia Brown and Gloria Gaynor.
