- Directed by Ben Harney, co-star of original Broadway production -

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Theatergoers will have a last chance to see “Dreamgirls,” the celebrated award-winning musical, in a limited run at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts before the highly publicized release of the film version in December. Directed by Tony-Award winner Ben Harney, co-star of the original Broadway production, “Dreamgirls” is based on the hit musical about the rise of a trio of black female soul singers in the early 1960s.

This production features a gifted cast who performed to wildly enthusiastic, standing-room-only audiences at the historic Lambs Theater on Broadway in August. The original Broadway production won six Tony Awards in 1982, including for best actor in a musical for Harney.

Presented by BAMSS Theatre Works, performances will take place on Friday-Saturday, November 17, 18, 24 and 25, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, November 18 and 25, at 2 p.m.; and Sunday, November 26, at 5 p.m., in the Kumble Theater, located at the University’s Brooklyn Campus, on the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush avenues in downtown Brooklyn. Tickets are $49; students and seniors with ID, $39; and VIP seating with Pre-Show Reception for Opening Night on Saturday, November 18, $100.

For more information on discounts available for youth groups, sororities and fraternities, call the Kumble Theater box office at (718) 488-1624 or visit www.kumbletheater.org.

Long Island University opened its Brooklyn Campus in 1926, welcoming a diverse population at a time when other major universities enforced quota systems against racial and ethnic minorities. Located at the corner of Flatbush Avenue Extension and DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn, the Campus is accessible to all major bus and subway routes and the Long Island Rail Road.
