Haitian Music Album Covers to Go on Display
at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus in October
Brooklyn, N.Y. – In October, Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus will showcase Haitian music album covers in an exhibition that is free and open to the public.
The art exhibition will take place at the Campus’s Resnick Gallery from October 1 to October 31. The Brooklyn Campus is located in Downtown Brooklyn at the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush avenues.
An opening reception with a musical performance will be held on Tuesday, October 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The performances are by the Haitian jazz band, Buyu Ambroise Blues in Red Band, and by Bonga.
Dedicated to Haitian artist Tiga (Jean Claud Garoute), the exhibition includes covers of the following artists: Ti Roro et son tambour, Lumane Casimir, Ti Paris, Toto Bissainthe, Super Jazz des Jeunes, Manno Charlemagnes, Voodoo Artist, Anthony Phelps, Maurice Sixto, Soley Leve, Alix Pascal, Emeline Michel, Myriam dorisme, Tabou Combo, Cabane Choucoune, Choeur Simidor, Martha Jean-Claude, Haiti Genocide, Guy Durosier, Orchestre Septentriol, Frantz Casseus Haitian Dances, Super Ensemble Nemour Jean Baptists, Uncle bouqui, Tropicana, Bethova-Obas, Orchestre El Saeh and La Troupe Makandal.
Music historian/collector Lionel Legros, curator Jerry Philogene and artist Andre Juste collaborated on this exhibition with the Campus’s African Studies Steering Committee.
Hours for the Resnick Gallery are from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday/Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For gallery information, call Gallery Director Nancy Grove at (718) 488-1198.

Long Island University opened its Brooklyn Campus in 1926, welcoming a diverse population at a time when other major universities enforced quota systems against racial and ethnic minorities. Located at the corner of Flatbush Avenue Extension and DeKalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn, the Campus is accessible to all major bus and subway routes and the Long Island Rail Road.
