Janis Brenner & Dancers Take the Stage
at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, October 31
- Free performance at the Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts -

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Award-winning dancer and choreographer Janis Brenner will perform with her company at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, as part of the Dance Department’s “Afternoons at LIU” concert series.

The free performance will take place on Wednesday, October 31, at noon at the Campus’s Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, located on the corner of DeKalb and Flatbush avenues in Downtown Brooklyn.

Brenner has been described as a singular performer with a multifaceted artistic range.  Her honors include a NY Dance and Performance Award (“Bessie”) for Outstanding Creative Achievement in Meredith Monk's "The Politics of Quiet;" a "Bessie" nomination for her performance in “Solo for Janis,” choreographed by Richard Siegal; and a Lester Horton Award for Outstanding Achievement in Choreography in L.A. for the collaborative work “Tom's Renaissance,” among others.  At the Kumble, she will present a new work featuring dance students alongside members of her company.

Dance Faculty Concert: Friday, October 12, 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $15, general; $10, students and seniors with ID. The Campus dance faculty will present an eclectic evening of contemporary dance alongside early 20th-century modern dance. Faculty works include Clare Byrne’s “Solo Flight,” Nathan Trice’s “Conversations,” Vanessa Justice’s “2-Liter Alteration,” Mare Hieronimus’ “spark/till” and a special solo performance by Earl Mosley in “Without Fear.”

Afternoons at LIU presents No Boundaries: Dancing the Visions of Contemporary Black Choreographers by Gesel Mason/Performance Projects: Wednesday, November 14, noon. Free. DC-based dancer/choreographer Gesel Mason presents a program of solo works by leading contemporary African-American choreographers, including Bebe Miller, Donald McKayle, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Andrea Woods and David Rousseve. 

Dance Department Winter Concert: Friday, November 30, 7:30 pm; Saturday, December 1, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets: $15, general; $10, students and seniors with ID. Dance majors perform an exciting program of modern dance works, and a restaging of a historic work by choreographer Mark Morris.
