All-Day IRS Taxation Conference to Be Held at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, January 9

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Designed for CPAs, attorneys and practitioners involved in tax preparation, the all-day Seventh Annual New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants Brooklyn Chapter IRS Taxation Conference will be held at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus on January 9, 2008.

“We are thrilled to offer the most comprehensive conference on tax preparation techniques and guidelines to tax professionals and attorneys,” said Mohammed Ghriga, dean of the Brooklyn Campus School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences.

The luncheon speaker for the conference is Robert W. Walsh, commissioner, New York City Department of Small Business Services.

The program topics are designed to provide the participants with tax planning ideas and techniques to utilize in their practices. Among the topics are:

• The New Compliance Edge: Examination and Collection
• Accessing Retirement Funds
• IRS/State Exchange of Information to Combat Employment Tax Fraud
• Tax Impact of Debt Cancellation and Home Foreclosure
• State and Local Tax Updates and Related Topics

“This is an opportunity to bring the most current changes and updates in taxation to the professional community of CPAs and Enrolled Agents as well as to our students,” according to Myrna L. Fischman, chair of the Brooklyn Campus accounting, taxation and law department. “We are happy that both the IRS and the Brooklyn Chapter of NYSSCPA once again chose Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus as their venue.” The students of the Campus’s Accounting Society are hosting and will also attend the conference.
