Multicultural "Voices of the Rainbow" Reading Series Has Free Events at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus, 2/4, 3/4, 3/24 and 4/1
Brooklyn, N.Y. - The ongoing, multicultural "Voices of the Rainbow" reading series is offered free to the public by Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus. For Spring 2008, the schedule includes readings by authors Elizabeth Nunez, Gregory Pardlo and Jennifer Knox, Major Jackson and Kwame Dawes, and Ishle Yi Park.
Elizabeth Nunez
Monday, February 4, noon, Humanities Building, Room 206
A native of Trinidad, Elizabeth Nunez is a City University of New York Distinguished Professor. Her six novels include "Prospero's Daughter" a New York Times Book Review Editor's Choice, and "Bruised Hibiscus" an American Book Award winner. This event is co-sponsored by the Brooklyn Campus Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program.
Gregory Pardlo & Jennifer Knox
Tuesday, March 4, 10 a.m., Health Sciences Building, Room 119
Greg Pardlo is a graduate fellow of the Cave Canem Poet's Workshop. His work has been published in the literary journals Callaloo and Ploughshares. A teacher of poetry writing, Jennifer Knox has taught at Hunter College, CUNY, and New York University, and her work has been published in The Iowa Review and the American Poetry Review.
Major Jackson & Kwame Dawes

Winner of the 2000 Cave Canem Poetry Prize, Major Jackson is the author of two poetry collections, "Hoops" and "Leaving Saturn." Kwame Dawes, who was born in Ghana and grew up in Jamaica, is the author of numerous collections of poetry, fiction and nonfiction, including "A Far Cry from Plymouth Rock," "Impossible Flying" and "Bob Marley: Lyrical Genius." This event is co-sponsored by the Africana Studies Program.
Ishle Yi Park
Tuesday, April 1, noon, Library Learning Center, Room 124
Former Poet Laureate of Queens, Ishle Yi Park is the author of the poetry collection, "The Temperature of This Water," and a regular on Def Poetry Jam. The Asian Studies Program is co-sponsoring this event.
