Business professionals share skills/values needed for success as future business leaders

Brooklyn, N.Y. -- College juniors and seniors from the entire metropolitan area are invited to a free one-day seminar to build the skills and values that can help them become leaders in the business world.

"The 3rd Annual Leadership Skills Development Program for Business Students – We’re About Success!" seminar will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008, at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus in the Paramount Gym, from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This one-day informative and educational program is open to college juniors and seniors majoring in business, holders of A.A.S. degrees and candidates for a 2008 A.A.S. degree. The focus will be on the skills and values necessary to be a leader in the workplace. Business casual dress is desired.

Professionals from various business fields will lead skills-development workshops and presentations at the daylong seminar, made possible by the School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences at Long Island University, the Center for Accounting Education at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and the Maryland-based consulting firm Cook Ross, Inc. The event is sponsored by the financial service firm, Morgan Stanley and the Hughes Foundation.

Long Island University alumnus Frank Ross, the director of the Center for Accounting Education and a founding member of the National Association of Black Accountants, will moderate the day’s events along with Leslie Traub, a partner at Cook Ross, Inc., and Michael Ross, an executive director within Morgan Stanley’s financial control group. During the lunch portion of the seminar, there will be a panel discussion with business professionals who will provide insight into their road to success.

"This program is designed to help young professionals identify the challenges, choices and opportunities that may impact their careers," Mr. Ross explains, noting, "This seminar will guide business students towards success and leadership right from the start."

All events will take place in the Paramount Gym on the Brooklyn Campus, located at Flatbush and DeKalb avenues. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Space is limited and registration is required. To register, please contact Joan Pierre of the School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences at (718) 488-1121 or joan.pierre@liu.edu.
