Susanna Starr and Robert Bunkin Display Their Art in April at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus Galleries
- Humanities Gallery to show Urban Glass Group Exhibition in May -
Brooklyn, N.Y.—The galleries at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus will showcase a colorful installation by Susanna Starr, evocative paintings by Robert Bunkin and a group exhibition by Urban Glass artists. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.
Running from April 1 to April 30 in the Campus’s glass-encased Humanities Building Gallery is sculpture by Susanna Starr. A New York sculptor, Starr is known for her mixed media saturated paint sponge sculptures.
Running concurrently, in the Campus’s Salena Gallery, is an exhibition of paintings by Robert Bunkin. A reception for the artist will be held on Wednesday, April 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Bunkin is a figurative painter whose work emphasizes the specifics of time and individuality. He will show portraits and close-up images of couples and trees.
Also during the month of April in the Campus’s Resnick Gallery are library exhibitions about the Polk Awards and a card-catalog art project.
The George Polk Awards, one of journalism’s most coveted honors, have been administered by Long Island University since 1949. The exhibition will feature highlights, through posters and photographs, of some outstanding winners over the years. The card catalog project will feature art by the Campus community on discarded cards.
From May 5 to May 30, the Humanities Building Gallery will feature a group exhibition of works by Urban Glass faculty.
Urban Glass is a not-for-profit international art center whose mission is to promote the use and appreciation of glass as a creative medium.
Also in May, in the Salena and Resnick galleries, is the Visual Arts and Media Arts department’s senior thesis exhibition featuring works by students. A reception will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Hours for the Salena and Resnick galleries are from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday/Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; the Humanities Building Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed weekends.
