Fifth Total Woman Business Conference to Be Held at Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus on April 12
Information/networking opportunities for women business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs
Brooklyn, N.Y. – “Think Big, Think Smart!” is the theme of the all-day Fifth Total Woman Business Conference to be held at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus on Saturday, April 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
More than 18 workshops and roundtables will be offered on issues such as technology, Web 2.0, marketing and sales, finances, green businesses and health. One-on-one business clinics will be offered in English and in Spanish and entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to display their products and services. The Fifth Total Woman Business Conference this year will provide a youth track to prepare young entrepreneurs who are pursuing their business dreams.
Hosted by the Brooklyn Women’s Business Center (BWBC) and Long Island University’s School of Business, Public Administration and Information Sciences, the Conference is expected to attract more than 250 women from the metropolitan area and provide them with practical information and networking opportunities. "Women business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs will have a chance to learn from successful business owners, coaches and mentors in order to realize their vision for success," according to Elisa Balabram, director of the BWBC of the Local Development Corporation of East New York.
The Conference will feature keynote speakers — Terrie Williams, a successful public relations professional, author, and founder of The Terrie Williams Agency; and Carmen Wong Ulrich, money expert and author of the under-40 guide to personal finance, “Generation Debt: Take Control of Your Money” (Warner Books).
The BWBC was founded in 2000 by the Local Development Corporation of East New York, a 28-year-old not-for-profit community economic development organization, with the support of Congresswoman Nydia Velasquez, chair of the House Small Business Committee. The goal of the program is to deliver business development services to women, with special emphasis on minority women. Last year, the BWBC served more than 1,600 clients.
The Early Bird registration fee is $50, for registration by March 31; $75, for registration between April 1 and April 11; and $100 (cash only) at the door. Students from Long Island University’s School of Business interested in attending the conference should contact Joan Pierre at (718) 488-1121.
