‘One of Our Sons Is Missing,” Which Deals with HIV/AIDS Is Among the Summer 2008 Theater Events at Long Island University’s Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts

Brooklyn, N.Y.—June means great theater events at Long Island University’s Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts, located at the University’s Brooklyn Campus.
June theater events:
“One of Our Sons Is Missing”
Thursday, June 19, 8 p.m.; Friday, June 20, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Saturday, June 21, 8 p.m.
Godfrey Sealy’s “One of Our Sons Is Missing” deals with a family and community in the Caribbean in 1988 who are forced to confront dark secrets, prejudices and fear when the threat and reality of HIV/AIDs invades their world. June is national AIDS month. This event is presented by Caribbean Cultural Theatre in collaboration with the Kumble Theater.
Tickets: $35, general admission; $25, students and seniors with ID; $20, special offer for students and seniors for Thursday, 8 p.m. and Friday, 2 p.m. performances. Group rates and discounts available. Contact box office for details.
“Fresh Oil – Rain Down on Me”
Sunday, June 29, 5 p.m.
“Fresh Oil” portrays the lives of several individuals who have been challenged with what seems to be a never-ending storm. We watch their lives unfold during this musically enriched performance as they all cry out for a “fresh anointing” to fall on them. This event is presented by Revelation Performing Arts.
Tickets: $55, VIP (includes reception and gift bags); $31.50, general admission.
July theater events:
“On Top of Spaghetti”
Tuesday, July 15, 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.
A runaway meatball, a heroic plumber, a blinding blizzard and some of the most unusual friends you’ll ever meet combine in The Paper Bag Players’ light-hearted, musical, very audience-participatory show, “On Top of Spaghetti.” The show abounds in old-fashioned belly laughs, sing-along-able songs and imagination! A perfect show for children in grades 4-9! This event is presented by The Paper Bag Players in collaboration with the Kumble Theater.
Tickets: $8, group discounts available.
