Brooklyn, N.Y. – College-bound students, working professionals and career changers, along with their families and friends, will have a chance to explore the diverse programs and beautiful grounds of the 11-acre Brooklyn Campus of Long Island University during LIU Day, on Sunday, November 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At the annual fall open house, visitors can meet professors and students, attend financial aid workshops and discuss their needs with academic and career advisers. A special program will address the interests of those “returning to learning,” such as professionals affected by the downturn in the economy.

On LIU Day, the Admissions Office will waive fees for applications.

LIU Day, on Sunday, November 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is free and open to the public. It begins in the main building at Flatbush and DeKalb avenues in downtown Brooklyn. For more information or directions, call (718) 488-1011 or visit www.brooklyn.liu.edu.

Well known for its strong commitment to each individual student, the Brooklyn Campus provides personalized attention and small classes. Its extensive array of academic programs includes business, education, health sciences, liberal arts, nursing and pharmacy, as well as study-abroad opportunities.

“We are a community that cares about and supports each and every member,” said Provost Gale Stevens Haynes, noting, “Given these tough economic times, our dynamic campus and outstanding faculty offer an encouraging atmosphere for growth and adventure.”

Amid fountains and flowering lawns, the Brooklyn Campus sparkles with the energy of a vibrant and diverse community. Students enjoy the $45 million Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center, with top-notch fitness equipment, an eight-lane swimming pool, a sports arena and facilities for the school’s 18 NCAA Division I sports teams. The Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts offers an exciting venue for dance, music, film and other programs. The Louise B’69 and Leonard Riggio Cyber Café provides an inviting space for late-night snacks, plus free computer and Internet access and technical assistance.

The Brooklyn Campus is part of Long Island University, founded in 1926 and now among the largest private universities in the country. Its more than 11,000 undergraduate, graduate and continuing studies students represent nearly all races and cultures of the world.
