From Japanese Drums to a Gospel Awards Show,
Long Island University’s Kumble Theater Presents Exciting Events

Brooklyn, N. Y. – A diverse lineup of programs including Japanese drums, Mongolian throat singing, and a gospel awards show are among the events at Long Island University’s Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts in late October and in November.

Tuesday, October 20, 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. – Community Works presents the Khoomei-Taiko Ensemble. Experience the driving rhythms of the Japanese drums (taiko) and mesmerizing Mongolian throat singing (khoomei) in a cross-cultural performance by this internationally acclaimed group of musicians and singers. Saturday, October 24, 7 p.m. – Minister Marcus and Friends present the Kingdom Choice Awards, an urban gospel awards show that is the first of its kind in New York City. Sunday, November 8, 11 a.m. – The World of Oraje presents the New York Natural Hair, Health & Beauty Universe, which brings together for a day-long extravaganza some of the top celebrities in the world of hair, make-up, skin care and holistic health to educate and entertain. Monday, November 9, at 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. – Community Works presents Earth Music: Songs of Native America and West Africa. Join veteran artist Valerie Narjano as she uses interactive storytelling, song and movement to introduce the idea of a shared musical link between all people. Tickets: $7. Friday, November 13, and Saturday, November 14, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 15, at 3 p.m. – Choreographers Laurie DeVito and Diane McCarthy present an evening of dramatic works of dance. Tickets: $20.

Saturday, November 21, at 7 p.m. – Independent Film New York in association with the Kumble Theater, Legacy Media Group and www.ifilmnet.tv present IFNY Monologue Slam. Contestants should visit www.ifilmnet.tv to submit an audition video. Tickets: $20.
