Enthralling Visual Art Exhibitions on Display At Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus this Fall - Artists include Cynthia Dantzic and Jane Gilmor -
Brooklyn, N.Y. – Visual art in a variety of media is showcased in the galleries at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus this fall, and includes drawing, painting, photography and installation. The exhibitions are free and open to the public.
The Brooklyn Campus is located in downtown Brooklyn, on the corner of Dekalb and Flatbush avenues.
From October through November 6 in the Campus’s Resnick Gallery are works by Cynthia Dantzic, Brooklyn Campus senior professor of art. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, October 22 at 5 p.m.
“Sabbatical Diary” displays works by Dantzic completed during a recent year long Sabbatical. In addition to works in drawing, painting, woodcut, photography, photo-collage and calligraphy (in English, Chinese and Hebrew), the exhibition features three published books, plus documents relating to professional activities in which this busy professor was engaged during the fifteen months when she was “not working.” Dantzic is the author of several books on art and design, including the textbooks, “Design Dimensions” and “Drawing Dimensions,” both of which earned her the University’s coveted Trustees Awards for Scholarly Achievement.
Also through November 6 in the Campus’s Humanities Gallery are sculpture and paintings by Matt Freedman and Paul Rhoads; and in the Salena Gallery, a group exhibition, “Turnstile.”
From November 12 to December 18, the Humanities Gallery presents “The Architecture of Migration: I'll Be Back For the Cat,” an installation and sculpture by Jane Gilmor. Concurrently, in the Salena Gallery is contemporary Russian photography, “From the Provinces,” curated by Thomas Werner.
Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday/Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Humanities Building Gallery is closed on weekends.) For more information, call Nancy Grove at (718) 488-1198.
