Voices from the Rainbow Series: Roger Sedarat, Tiphanie Yanique
To Read at Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus, November 10

Brooklyn, N.Y. – As part of the English Department’s "Voices of the Rainbow" series, Long Island University’s Brooklyn Campus will feature readings by two authors from diverse backgrounds in November. The readings are free and open to the public.

The Brooklyn Campus is located in downtown Brooklyn, on the corner of Dekalb and Flatbush avenues.

Roger Sedarat and Tiphanie Yanique will read from their works on Tuesday, November 10, at noon in the Campus’s Health Sciences Building, Room 121.

Sedarat is author of the poetry collection, "Dear Regime: Letters to the Islamic Republic" (winner of the Hollis Summers Prize) and the chapbook, "From Tehran to Texas." He teaches in the M.F.A. program at Queens College.

Yanique, a native of the Virgin Islands, is an award-winning author of fiction, poetry and essays. Her story collection, "How to Escape from a Leper Colony," will be published in 2010. She teaches at Drew University.

The Campus’s Department of Communication Studies, Performance Studies and Theatre will present two shows in December.

"Angels Without Wings: The Nursing Autobiographies" will be presented on Wednesday, December 9, at 7 p.m. in the Campus’s Barbara and Melvin and Pasternack Little Theatre, H608. Tickets are $10.

"An Evening of Contemporary Scenes" will take place on Monday, December 14, also at 7 p.m. in the Pasternack Theatre, H608. Tickets are $10.
